Last week, we joined DAMA DAY Warsaw 2025 as an official partner, supporting Poland’s leading event for data management and governance professionals.

Organised for the first time in Poland by DAMA Poland Chapter, DAMA International and Evention, it was an incredible occasion to connect with CDOs, Data Stewards, Architects, Data Scientists, and data-driven leaders!

Taking the stage: Boosting efficiency with a centralised data catalog

Gathering such an audience, it was a must for us to take the stage and deliver the actionable presentation. Piotr Siemieniuk, Data Governance Consultant, discussed the strategic value of a centralised data knowledge base in optimising debt collection processes. He left the participants with takeaways on how:

  • improve trust in operational data
  • reduce the time needed to find and interpret data
  • raise the standard of data security and compliance

Valuable conversations at the BitPeak booth

Throughout the conference, our team — Sebastian Kamiński, Andrzej Szczechla, Andrzej Chuść, Kacper Ropski, and of course Piotr Siemieniuk — engaged with participants, discussing best practices in data management, tailored data strategy implementation, and the organisation’s unique data challenges.

Data strategy is fundamental to effective data governance. Board-level engagement is essential, not only for approving the strategy but also for overseeing its implementation. Successful execution relies primarily on people and processes, rather than technology alone. Moreover, the strategy must remain agile, evolving in response to organisational and market changes.

For data governance to succeed, employees must recognise the value of company data and understand the overarching strategy. Initiatives featuring ongoing training and workshops—help build this awareness. These programs also foster cross-departmental knowledge sharing, allowing best practices and insights to spread throughout the organisation. There was significant interest in training programs that go beyond technical tools to include an introduction to data management and data strategy, as well as the importance of data stewardship.

Regarding artificial intelligence, it should be viewed as an enabler, not a replacement for employees. AI enhances the efficiency of data inventory, comprehension, and quality management processes, empowering teams to make better, data-driven decisions.

When discussing the development of new cloud structures, experts emphasised the critical role of robust data migration tools. This aspect is often overlooked, leading to unexpected costs and stability challenges that fall short of business expectations.

Expert takeaways from BitPeak

Andrzej Szczechla shared his perspective:

In great opening presentation DAMA’s president Peter Aiken pointed that data governance is not a single project that can be started and completed. It’s a process of inventorying and understanding the data in an organization and then managing it for the whole organization. This allows for the maximum transformation of data into true value for the organization.

Such approach, years of conscious data governance development deliver outstanding results in mBank! Great case study demonstrating how systematic and comprehensive approach to data management, involvement of hundreds of employees in this process, allow the effective management of data. This cause that data can be now effectively used in different processes, for example in mandatory reporting.

The DAMA DAY Warsaw provided us with a fantastic platform to exchange experiences with data leaders from Poland and representatives of companies offering cutting-edge solutions in data catalog, data quality, data privacy.

Let’s continue the conversation
